2010 Silver Award - Bin 23 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir is a bold, and dynamic inclusion to the Penfolds red wine stable - reflecting an evolving style, regional definition and the complexities of the many and varied clones of pinot noir. The relationship between Penfolds and the cool climate, high altitude Adelaide Hills wine region continues to grow from strength to strength with this Bin 23 Pinot Noir, following in the footsteps of the success and development of the Penfolds Cellar Reserve Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir. Penfolds Bin 23 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir has definitive earthy cherry, cooked beetroot and crushed vine leaves aromas along with subtle dustiness on the nose; Softened, silky tannins with lively mixed red fruits flavours framed by nicely balanced acidity throughout impart a velvety texture that leads to a lengthy finish.

Huon Hooke (94 points): Medium to light red colour with a good tint of purple. The bouquet is beautifully fragrant and fruit-driven, with beguiling aromas of strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, laced with a faint sprinkle of mixed spice. Light-bodied and intense, beautifully flavoured and balanced, with seamless flow and satiny texture. A delicious young pinot.
Campbell Mattinson (92 points): Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir. 15% whole bunches. 30% new French oak.Named after Cellar 23 at Magill. Reduction is the first impression. Then spice. Then macerated cherries. Then sweeter, brighter, more floral elements, like redcurrant infused with roses. Tannin curls through the wine like a cat around your legs. It’s difficult for a stewy pinot noir like this to achieve any kind of elegance but it makes a pretty decent play at it, it must be said.
